How does Network Chiropractic Work?

How does Network Chiropractic Work?

Ever wonder how Network Chiropractic works? I’ve been asked this lately: “Dr. Leo, my [ back, neck, headaches, energy, mood, etc. ] has been getting much better thank you, but I still don’t know how you do it. You barely touched my spine.” Firstly, people do get better with very little force to the spine. A Network Adjustment also called a Spinal Entrainment, uses precise and gentle touches to the spine to cause our bodies to self-heal. Patients who are dealing with aches, pain, and stiffness often feel better early in the course of their plan. People who’ve lost energy, focus, mobility or strength show improvement too. When it’s time to do an exam of their progress, people show better alignment and less pressure in the spine and nerves.   But how does it happen? There’s a lot to know about healing. We’ll be writing about this topic regularly to help you understand how it works.   Nerves Drive Healing and Repair What does a Network Chiropractor really adjust? When I adjust or entrain your spine, I’m working with something called Spinal Gateways. What are Spinal Gateways? Inside your spinal column is the spinal cord. It’s about 17in / 43cm long and about the width of a finger. The spinal cord is made of over 13 million nerves. We need the nerves to transmit signals between our brain and every part of our body. We literally live and die by those nerves and their signals. When the signals are coming through cleanly, our bodies function and heal as they should. When the nerves are under pressure, the signals can distort and drop out, causing your body, brain, and heart to miss out on important messages. This is when function and repair suffers. The worst thing is that your body can get distorted signals and you might not notice symptoms until much later. Fortunately, inside our spinal cords are the Spinal Gateways. Spinal Gateways are the gatekeepers of our nervous system. They are clusters of brain cells and are constantly gathering information from all parts of your body: your eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin, joints, muscles and other organs. Using the information gathered, Spinal Gateways send out the appropriate signals back to the body. These could be signals to contract or relax a muscle, to tell an organ to do it’s normal function or to switch to repair mode. For people who are injured or having trouble healing, these Spinal Gateways can be asleep and mishandling life-critical information. When that happens, your body doesn’t function or heal the way it should. Let me say this, your body literally lives and dies by the health of your Spinal Gateways. Every time I entrain, we wake up gateways from their slumber. That is when signals for normal function and repair really flow. That’s how we heal. Stay tuned for more articles as uncover the mystery of healing. Dr....

Easy Ways to Improve and Maintain Your Health

If you could do something fast and easy twice a month and experience long-term health and wellness benefits as a result,  would you do it? It’s what a recent study from SPINE (click for link) concluded about what seeing a chiropractor can do for lower back pain sufferers1. Twice a month is not much time or effort compared to other healthy habits, right? Brushing your teeth is a twice daily affair. Most experts agree we should eat 3 healthy meals and take in 2 litres of fluids each day. And exercise 30 minutes 4-5 times a week. So what exactly can a chiropractor do for you? Some of the health benefits to seeing a chiropractor regularly: Prevent Injuries and Disability4 Less chance of re-injury4 Less need for drugs for pain relief 2 Better overall health3 Freedom to have a more active lifestyle2 Fewer allergies and infections2 There’s never been stronger evidence that seeing a chiropractor can make a difference for your health. The research literature supports chiropractic. My patients tell many stories of how their health improved from Network Spinal Analysis Chiropractic (click here for link). Get into Your Groove with a Clear Day!

Get into Your Groove with a Clear Day!

On Saturday, November 23 we are co-hosting a full day healing intensive event called a Clear Day.  Clear Days are the most transformative and powerful healing events I have ever been a part of and an incredible opportunity to bust through old patterns and step into something new.  Having hosted 7 Clear Days to now, I am still amazed, inspired and thrilled about what happens for people at the event and beyond. Clear Days happen at a location external to our regular office environment.  We spend a full day in a community of like minded, open hearted people focused on healing and growth.  Doing healing work in community is a powerful way to create growth, far faster than we can do one-on-one.  We share both consciously and unconsciously with others in our healing process; just think about how you often get more out of doing a group yoga class, meditation, or exercise. Clear Days are inspired by the work of Dr. Donald Epstein who gave us the wonderful gift of the chiropractic technique called Network Spinal Analysis and the body/breath technique called Somato Respiratory Integration (SRI).  At Clear Days we have 3 “entrainment” sessions interspersed with SRI and other body centered workshops to enhance the process and add to the learning.   An “entrainment” is the word we use for the chiropractic care we provide which is designed to help your body connect and release it’s own tension and generate alignment and self healing.  At the upcoming Clear Day we will have 5 chiropractors working at once during the entrainment session with up to 15 people on the tables at once.  The group effect of doing this entrainment together provides a powerful synergy to help people create healing and learning that is not available day to do in the office. Throughout the day we will go on a journey through the “Seasons of Wellbeing”.  Our first entrainment focuses on the strategies of the season of “Discover”, where we can be authentic with ourselves, learn where we may be running from pain or problems in our lives and we get more connected to our bodies and emotions.  In the second entrainment we embrace the season of “Transform” where we can claim our personal power, commit to making changes in our lives and move into action.  The final entrainment embodies the season of “Awaken” where we move into heart space and experience expansiveness, gratitude, joy, and acceptance to inspire us to be all that we can be in our lives. This Clear Day’s theme is “Get into Your Groove”.  Our theme is designed to help you learn more about what groove you are living in your life at this time, where you want to be and how to get into your groove and flow of your life day to day by living in the moment and being authentic with yourself and your life.    We want to help you find your groove and groove with your life and with others in a way that feels, effortless, fun and enlivening. If you would like to learn more or get involved please call our office at (416) 923-4325.  Come groove with...

Being Healthy with Fibromyalgia – Network Spinal Analysis

Being Healthy with Fibromyalgia – Network Spinal Analysis

Living with Fibromyalgia can be an ongoing experience with pain, fog and fatigue. There may be no injury present, or compared to the symptoms the injury is small. Or, it may have healed long ago, so why does it still ache? Fibromyalgia and other forms of chronic pain do not happen because of muscles or joints alone. Some skeptics may even tell you it’s all in your head. So what is really happening? The latest understanding is that our nervous system plays a big role. What’s the nervous system? It is made up of nerve endings, nerves and the spinal cord. These are the sensors, wiring and switches for gathering, transmitting and processing input from all parts of the body. The nervous system’s largest processing centre is the brain. This is where the nervous system receives the signals and makes its best interpretation. For many people living with Fibromyalgia or other forms of chronic pain, the nervous system is miswired and distorts what should be benign input. The result is a painful misinterpretation, ouch! What this all means is that pain comes from our nervous system and in particular the brain. If the pain experience comes from a brain miswired, how do we address the pain and get back to health? Pain medication, usually the first resort, can quiet the nerves and the pain centres in the brain. Unfortunately, pain meds modify the experience only and not the underlying issue. Take away the medication and the pain returns. Why? The nervous system is still misinterpreting signals as painful. Reorganizing the nervous system is the key to health. How do we improve the health of the nervous system and correct the signal distortion? We need to reorganize the sensors, wiring and switches. We need to rewire the nervous system.   Network Spinal Analysis A gentle approach can be the answer. Network Spinal Analysis is leading edge chiropractic that has helped improve Fibromyalgia symptoms and achieve greater health using a system of light touch. Developed by chiropractor Dr. Donald Epstein, Network Spinal Analysis helps the body form new connections between brain and body. It is a gentle technique that is well suited to people living with Fibromyalgia. Light touch is used along specific areas of the spine causing large-scale changes across the entire body. The gentle touches, applied with as much force as putting in a contact lens, are made over specific areas called “spinal gateways”. Gateways are critical information processing centres for our nervous system. They’re how the nervous system can monitor and regulate on our inner and outer environments. They are focal areas for free energy and with light touches can help the nervous system to unwind, heal and growth. When a Gateway is contacted the body naturally breathes and moves, stretches, awakens, and releases stuck energy and stress. With regular care, this ability becomes deeply ingrained. The nervous system is the new cornerstone to health and well-being. Functioning optimally, it helps all parts of the body to communicate with each other. It allows us to sense and adapt to ever changing internal and external environments. For people living with Fibromyalgia or other forms of chronic pain, the nervous system can be miswired and can interfere with normal body function. Network Spinal Analysis makes possible a re-organized and rewired nervous system. If you could rewire ourselves for greater healing, growth and well-being, what would open up for you? Yours in health,Dr. Leo Quan  Tweet...

Rocky Mountain Majesty

Rocky Mountain Majesty

On a recent sunshine break away from Toronto, I had the chance to visit the Rocky Mountains near Denver, Colorado.  I went to attend a Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) intensive seminar and was encompassed by the brilliant sunshine and beautiful mountain view.  I was also engulfed in new information on reorganizational healing.  The energy of the doctors attending was empowering.  New and experienced doctors alike were transformed by the founder of NSA care, Dr. Donny Epstein.  I was pleased to be in the presence of such amazing healing energy and to be amidst the raw nature of the mountains.  During the four day seminar we discovered, transformed and were awakened to the extraordinary possibilities that life can be. Thoughts, feelings, and behaviours were examined and powerful new strategies on healing were presented.  I am happy to be able to integrate new information into my practice.  After letting all the knowledge sink in post-seminar, we were lucky enough to have some time to head into Rocky Mountain National Park which was just a short drive away.  We could view the mountain peaks from a distance as we travelled along the winding roads.  Finally after turning a curve, we saw the majestic snow-capped rockies and were right in the midst of them.  Wow!  We were in awe! The greatness of being immersed right in the heart of nature is a wonderful feeling.  The peaks were so bright white and the evergreen trees so strong and sturdy.  The sun was radiant and warm.  We even saw a moose just grazing a little distance from the road.  What a delight!  Needless to say, we had a lovely time taking in the pure nature surrounding us. I just wanted to share this experience because it was truly life-changing for me and the way I practice the healing art and science of chiropractic.  I feel quite energized about helping people notice everyday blessings and taking health and healing to whole new levels.  I hope that this post has inspired you to reach higher peaks.  Make 2013 your year to transform, naturally and majestically.
