The Icy Challenge!

Feeling sleepy all the time? Lacking energy? In a never-ending low mood? Winter can be really depressing… but maybe only if you want it to be. Coming from a tropical country in December 2011, I landed in Canada for the first time. I got off the airplane and first thought: “Did someone forget to turn off the AC or am I actually outside?” Having never experienced such cold weather before, my first months in this country were really tough both physically and mentally. I became lazy, depressed, and a homebody that was trying to escape the cold as much as she could. I did not want to do anything but stay warm at home. For a while, there were only two things that could get me out: school and work, nothing else! That summer, I spent time in the great outdoors with friends and family. It was so great that it made me realize how much quality time I had wasted sleeping and lazing around. Inspired, I committed to challenge myself and enjoy activities outside for my second winter in Canada. There is still one winter activity I have yet to try: ice-skating! And I am so happy to have my first experience in a few days with Source Centre’s first skating party on Wednesday February 19th at 5:00 pm at Nathan Phillips Square. You are invited; join us for an evening of total fun! Life is too short to be wasted, so let’s get up and make the most of winter! – Astou – Source Centre...

California Trippin’

California Trippin’

I greeted the fall season in California this year. Yes! California! I went to do an intensive training for a practice I’m newly unrolling in November at Source Centre called the Art of Feminine Presence (more on that in a future post) and then I spent a couple of days in West L.A., a place called Venice Beach. I am always so enriched by, and grateful for, opportunities to explore myself in different environments. I spent many hours by the Pacific ocean just absorbing her roaring beating heart…letting the sun stroke my skin (this is a different sun, I tell you)…drinking in the salty air…taking in the extraordinary beauty of the horizon and the hills and the sky. I took precious time feeling my feelings and grounding my energy. Whenever I go somewhere I can come back and write a novel of my experiences, the details, and the way I felt and the things that opened up and transformed for me. It’s truly one of the gifts of our time to be able to visit faraway places with relative ease and expense. I stayed at the most beautiful spot, made some new friends and had an amazing time exploring myself through time and space in unfamiliar terrain. And I came back a different person than I was when I left. In truth, don’t we go to bed each night a different person than the one who awoke that morning? What’s our degree of awareness around it? Do we search it out and welcome it? It can seem a scary thing but so, so worth it. To be...

NanoWorkouts in May

Not enough time to fit in a full workout? I find a lot of people are in the same situation. 10 hour days at work. Meals. Commuting. Family. Chores. School. Is it exhausting to even imagine this? Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, so how can we fit in some activity and make a difference to our health and well-being? Joakim Christoffersson a busy professional himself saw the need for quick easy workouts in his life and created Nano Workouts. Nano Workouts are small micro workouts that we can do at the office, during our commute and at home. They’re quick exercises that stretch and strengthen our bodies. Pick and choose based on the situation you’re in. Take joy, no equipment is needed.  “A small amount of exercise many times becomes a lot when added up,” say Christoffersson. For the month of May, Source Centre is featuring Nano Workouts and sharing different workouts each week. Come by our centre to get your next workout! For more information, visit http://www.nanoworkout.com.   If you enjoyed this post, I’d be very grateful if you’d help it spread by emailing it to a friend, or sharing it on Twitter or Facebook. Celebrate Life

(Image: Trees_and_Shrubs_g75-Sunbeam_In_The_Forest / FreeDigitalPhotos.net) As we kick off a fresh new year and make new resolutions after all the holiday parties of 2012 have come to an end, let’s take a moment to ponder and celebrate this wonderful thing called life. Life, ah yes, a word to describe our vibrancy, motivations, births, deaths, daily happenings and special occasions.  A daydreamer myself, I often have fleeting thoughts on the purpose of life that captivate me for seconds before my mind is entranced by other thoughts… So what do you want from this life?  Are you living to your full potential?  Are you taking time to enjoy the wonders of nature?  Are you thankful for all the blessings you have?  Are you taking care of your body like a temple?  Are you striving for your goals and dreams?  Do you love what you do?  Are you doing something for YOU every single day?   Life is so short.  Enjoy every moment.  Keep your head up and smile bright. And always, always remember to express your love for others and especially love for yourself!   Wishing you a very happy, extraordinarily captivating and amazing new year ahead. Yours in health, Dr. Anita Rajan p.s. Need some help with your New Year’s or Life resolutions?  We’d love to help you get started on those here at Source Centre...
