Hot Stone Massage is performed with
basalt stones, which are formed from lava cooling after a volcanic
eruption. They are smooth and retain heat very well. These stones
are placed on specific areas of the body and then are used to
massage. The treatment involved use of energy meridians to promote
relaxation. The heat from the stones allows the therapist to work
more effectively in the muscles during the treatment, and sometimes
cool stones are used in combination for a more stimulating effect.
There are specific benefits to a hot stone massage which include;
increased circulation, increased lymphatic circulation, decreased
overall muscle and joint pain, decreases headaches, decreases
menstrual and sciatic pain. It also promotes increased well-being
and grounding due to the energy fields inherent in the stones.
Most importantly, hot stone therapy reduces your overall stress
and it is very common for clients to fall asleep on the table!
Treatments are for one hour or and hour and a half. Clients undress
to their comfort level and a massage lotion/gel is applied to
help glide the stones.
