F.A.Q's
Why Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the #1 most used traditional
health care in Canada.
The general public views Chiropractors as spinal specialists.
This is true, but Chiropractors also look at a person as a whole
and can assist with healing of all the systems, muscles and organs
of the body.
What do Chiropractors really do?
Chiropractors are not bone doctors, Chiropractors
primary focus is on the function and expression of the nervous
system. The nervous system is the most important system in
your body. The messages that pass through your nervous system
are vital to life. Without those messages the heart would not
beat, you could not breathe, heal, think, move, talk, feel or
essentially "be alive". It is the flow of information/
energy through the nervous system that makes us "alive".
Chiropractors are known as "back"
doctors because the spine and nervous system are intimately related.
An adjustment to the spine affects the function of the nervous
system. The purpose of an adjustment is to improve the
flow of information from the nervous system.
Therefore, the spine is a vehicle for making
change to the nervous system!!
By having a healthy nervous system and spine people can experience
high levels of energy, vitality, clarity, love, expression and
longevity. Chiropractic alone is not enough to for people to experience
all of the above. That is why Chiropractic is part of a wellness
lifestyle. Any person wanting to experience a HIGH-LEVEL
health should be having their nervous system adjusted regularly
and engage in other wellness practices.
How does my health go from good to bad?
Our state of health and well-being is greatly
influenced by physical, emotional, chemical, social, spiritual,
and environmental factors. Studies show that when stress arises
in any of these areas dis-ease patterns
can develop in our body/mind and be reflected in the shape, tone
and tension of our spine, our tissues and emotions. This tension
can reside in our tissues and accumulate throughout our lives
starting from childhood. It is no wonder that over time we feel
stiff, have less energy, and our body doesn’t function as
well.
Is Chiropractic safe?
100% safe and gentle. At The Source Centre our
Chiropractors use gentle manual contacts along the different regions
of the spine allowing your body to unwind from stress and tension
safely and naturally.
What are chiropractors doing when they
adjust my spine?
Chiropractic is based on the absolute science
that every function in the human body is directed and coordinated
by the nervous system. It is through this science that we know
without a doubt that the body is a self healing and self regulating
organism that knows how to heal itself from inside the same way
it knew how to grow from 2 cells into organs, glands, muscles,
joints, eyes, ears and eventually into YOU! The Power that made
the body heals the body! The body heals itself through the communication
of the nervous system to the tissues in your body and guiding
the correcting of any problems with the building of new tissue.
It will do this as long as there is no interference in the nerve
flow to the tissues in question.
The chiropractor's primary goal is to help the
body tap into this amazing, internal healing wisdom by removing
interferences to this nervous system called "Subluxations",
which are changes in the dynamics of the bones of the spine, choking,
stretching or irritating the delicate nerve tissues.
What are subluxations in my spine?
A Subluxation is a term to describe an area in
your spine and nervous system which is not functioning properly.
A subluxation consists of a multiple of components. It is created
as thousands of muscle fibers attached to your spinal column contract
and shorten, creating a spasm. The muscles pull on your spinal
bones (vertebrae) that are aligned on top of one another and shift
them out of alignment. The spinal nerves that branch out from
your spinal cord and exit through your vertebrae en route to your
body, get “kinked” and the messages that are being
relayed from your brain to your body and from your body to your
brain get short-circuited. During this process, your spinal cord
also becomes abnormally “stretched” and affects the
delicate tissues surrounding it.
When this happens, communication is altered and
your body’s systems fail to work properly. It is similar
to a short circuit in your house that was created by overwhelming
the electrical system. The power shuts off and leaves you in the
dark, literally! The presence of spinal subluxations in your body
is an indicator that you are “locked” in a pattern
of stress and defense.
Subluxations…Short Circuits In Your Spine
What causes Subluxations?
Physical Causes
Many people experience subluxations from physical
injuries to their spine such as a whiplash injury from a car accident.
Stiffness associated with a spinal injury is an indicator that
there is some residual nerve irritation due to a subluxation.
Subluxations develop as early as during the birthing process.
Even in a natural birth, the delicate spinal structures can be
considerably stretched, then we learn to walk, play in the playground,
learn to ride a bike, growing up to play sports our spines are
under constant physical stress.
Chemical stresses
Foods we eat, pesticides and preservatives we
use all contribute to chemical stresses to our nervous systems.
Stimulants such as nicotine, caffeine and alcohol cause stress
in our systems. Environmental pollution, our work and living environments
can be toxic; products we use- cleaning and personal products
can be stimulating our nervous systems in adverse ways.
Emotional Causes
Emotional stressors such as work, family, relationship,
financial all accumulate whether they are past stresses from childhood,
present situations or fear and predictions for the future. The
“emotional charge” associated with stressful events
has to be sent somewhere to be dealt with at a later time when
it was safer for you to experience it. Usually the emotional charge
ends up in your spine. It’s no surprise that about 80% of
the population has back problems!
What do subluxations cause?
The results of Subluxations cause sickness and
symptoms in the tissues where these nerves go. For some the symptom
is pain or headaches, in others it is leg pain and numbness, others
Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Asthma. In children Subluxations may
cause a block in the draining of the ear and cause Ear infections
or bedwetting. If a Subluxation is left uncorrected it can affect
the structure and function of the joints of the spine, and thus
lead to Scoliosis, or start the cycle of Spinal Arthritis.

What happens when I adjust my own joints?
You are moving areas which are excessively mobile
because they are compensating for the areas next to them which
are “stuck” or subluxated. By adjusting your own vertebrae
it only gives a temporary release because the area you are moving
is already excessively mobile- therefore a few hours later you
experience the same tightness and feel the need to adjust your
self again.
How long will I need to keep going to
a chiropractor?
More and more people are making long term
commitments that are consistently improving and evolving their
quality of life, life enjoyment, physical well-being, mental/emotional
well-being, and chemical well-being.
Continually making choices that evolve
our level of health and well-being is called a wellness lifestyle.
Our care at the Source Centre is part of a wellness
lifestyle.
Is it expensive?
That depends on how much you value your health.
If your health is your highest priority, than regular Chiropractic
care is inexpensive and affordable.
