Acupuncture is one of the five branches of Chinese medicine. It
is a powerful and complete medical system, refined and developed
over 5000 years. It is practiced in over 100 countries around the
world and is recommended by the World Health Organization
(WHO) and the American National Institutes of
Health (NIH) for an impressive list of conditions and
illnesses.
Acupuncture can:
-
Relieve pain
-
Improve digestion
-
Balance hormone levels
-
Stabilize blood pressure
-
Harmonize the menstrual cycle
-
Increase physical & mental energy
-
Strengthen immunity
-
Improve sleep
-
Calm the mind….and much, much more.
Treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into
points along energy channels that cross and connect the entire
body-mind system. These points have specific effects on the body’s
energy or “qi” and blood. By stimulating these points,
a strengthening and balancing of the body’s qi and blood
occurs.
The western perspective on acupuncture does not include the
concept of “qi” or energy channels. The western view
proposes that acupuncture points do indeed contain increased
electrical potentials, and needling them creates a cascade of
different reactions in the body and brain. Acupuncture sends
a healing impulse to the body, creating the release of curative
hormones and neurotransmitters and stimulation the cardiovascular,
immune and central nervous systems.
Community Acupuncture
As opposed to the one-to one treatments given in the West,
the traditional community model is practiced in China today.
Community acupuncture is about removing the barrier of cost from
access to health care. A sliding fee scale allows for more frequent
treatment, which all the research indicates is what leads to
quicker and more lasting results. After a private review of your
health history and wellness goals, a diagnosis is established
and treatment begins in a private room or community acupuncture
space (depending on space and availability).
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture
“Mei zen” (beautiful person) cosmetic acupuncture has been used
for thousands of years to brighten the eyes and improve overall complexion.
This relaxing treatment helps erase in a natural way, facial lines and wrinkles,
swelling and puffiness, pore size and scarring.
